ABOUT US

United Financial Credit Union History

Originally named Whittier Postal Credit Union, United Financial Credit Union was organized in December of 1953 as a state chartered credit union.  At first, its field of membership included just the Whittier Postal area serving postal employees and their immediate families.  Next it expanded to include La Mirada, Pico Rivera, La Puente, West Covina and Santa Fe Springs Postal areas.

With the merger of Mid-Cities Postal and REALA Credit Unions in 1976 we began to serve postal employees in Artesia, Bellflower, Downey, Lynwood, Norwalk and Paramount.  In 1978 we merged the YMCA Employees Federal Credit Union and then changed our name to United Federal Employees Credit Union.  With another merger in January 1979 of Federal and Postal Employees Credit Union our field of membership expanded again to serve all federal employees and their families who live or work in the Los Angeles area.

To better reflect our diverse field of membership the credit union changed its name to United Financial Credit Union in 1988.
